How I do it
CREATION PHASE
When facing a new creation, I always have nature and living forms as a reference and inspiration. Every curve and surface present in living beings have a biological explanation related to a certain function over time, and these evolutionary changes and transformations are what I find especially inspiring. The creative process consists of trying to emulate this natural process, experimenting and subjecting pure geometries to certain tensions, obtaining new living forms that fit a specific use. This experimental phase is developed through direct transformation exercises using materials like plasticine or paper, and tools such as drawing and 3D software.
FABRICATION PROCESS
Once the creative process is finished, it's time to get down to work! To give life to this new object, the first thing is to select the material. The choice of the material had to fulfill a fundamental premise: to be a living material, with its own DNA and unique fingerprints. This material could not be other than timber, which is carefully selected to meet the requirement and quality that each of the creations deserves.
The construction and manufacturing process equally combines technology and craftsmanship. The planks of timber are machined three-dimensionally using a 5 axis CNC milling router (numerical control), following a 3D drawing. Once the pieces are machined, these are glued and assembled one another by wood artisans obtaining the final shape, giving life to the object.
Finally, the whole piece goes through a careful process of sanding, and is finished with natural oil and beeswax. In this way the use of artificial products is avoided, the natural properties of the wood are enhanced and nourished, and it is endowed with an elegant matt finish.
All pieces produced through this process are carefully shaped to the highest standards, using both technology and craftsmanship in Galicia, Spain.
